Course Description

MTH 4151-1 Algebraic and Graphical Modelling in a General Context

First book of the Secondary IV Cultural, Social and Technical math option.

    For students in distance education

Geometric Representations is designed to help adult learners deal competently with real-life situations in which they must solve problems that involve representing the physical environment. The course prepares adult learners to use basic geometry, measurements and ratios in real-life situations that require them to represent shapes and quantities.

Add 4 or 5 sentences to present the content, the context and the outcomes of your course.

Algebraic Modelling is the third in a series of four Mathematics courses designed for the Common Core Basic Education (CCBE) program at the Secondary level.  Learners will solve situational problems by producing algebraic models for real-life situations. Learners also solve situational problems by using geometric formulas to calculate perimeters, areas and volumes. In addition, they are given an opportunity to interpret, produce and solve situational problems involving equations with one unknown variable.

Finance and Arithmetic is the first in a series of four in the Mathematics program, designed for the Common Core Basic Education (CCBE) program at the Secondary level. This course consists of six learning situations in which learners are required to solve problems that involve analyzing a pay slip, making a budget and filing an income tax return. Learners will also solve finance-related problems: taking out a term loan or a line of credit, paying with a credit card or a debit card and drawing up a financial statement are all situations that will help adult learners make informed decisions.

Arithmetic and Personal Finances is designed to help adult learners deal competently with real-life situations in which they must deal with problems involving their personal finances. The course prepares adult learners to use basic arithmetic in the day-to-day management of their personal finances.

Geometric Representations is designed to help adult learners deal competently with real-life situations in which they must solve problems that involve representing the physical environment. The course prepares adult learners to use basic geometry, measurements and ratios in real-life situations that require them to represent shapes and quantities.

Algebraic and Graphical Modelling in a Fundamental Context is the first mathematics course in the Science option of Secondary IV. The aim of this course is to develop the learner’s ability to handle situations that require an algebraic or graphical model to express a relationship between quantities.
