The Support for Assistive Care in Long-term Care Centres program prepares students to practise the occupation of assistive care attendant in a residential and long-term care centre (CHSLD) in the health and social services sector.

In general, their work consists of providing assistive care to an adult and senior client group with total or partial loss of functional or cognitive autonomy. The purpose of the occupation is to help clients compensate for their disabilities and to assist them in maintaining or regaining their autonomy and health. The duties of assistive care attendants include monitoring residents and ensuring their well-being by integrating care principles in the context of a living environment. These attendants must also pay careful attention to the safety-related aspects of their work, and provide care and services in a safe manner.
